WOMENS DAY CELEBRATIONS 2023
A day for women across the world, beyond the borders of the country. International Women's Day is celebrated every year on March 8. There are a thousand things behind this, starting with the support of the progress made by women to improve their own workplace facilities and living conditions, and the story of the success of women over the dominance of industrial monopolies with sweat and strength. This International Women’s Day, 8 March 2023, is celebrating under the theme DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality. and #embraceEquity
Considering today's scenario , more than gender equality, the correct term to use should be equity. A focus on gender equity needs to be part of every society's DNA. And it's critical to understand the difference between equity and equality. Whereas equality means providing the same to all, equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances. We can all truly embrace equity.
It's not just something we say. It's not just something we write about.
It's something we need to think about, know, value and embrace.
It's what we believe in, unconditionally. Equity means creating an inclusive world. We can all challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion.
Collective activism is what drives change. From grassroots action to wide-scale momentum, we can all embrace equity . Equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have.
With this we, The Women Development Cell of NSS training College Ottapalam celebrated Women Empowerment Week from March 1 to March 8, Conducting various refreshing and thought provoking programs. From slogan writing to collage making competitions and awareness classes to students. Women Empowerment Week celebrations and Awareness class by civil police officer
There was a time when women of our country were treated worse , denying their rights to even express themselves. Decades later, in this 21st century, the scenario is not much different. It's true that today women are in a far better place compared to our ancestors. The wars they fought for a better future surely did not go to vain. But even today the world is hard on women. Physically, mentally and emotionally it's draining her, Suppressing her voice. She is not even safe in her home. So the world needs to know the inequality we are facing And embrace equity.
With this concern in mind , The women development cell of our college, NSS TRAINING COLLEGE OTTAPALAM conducted so many programmes. The inauguration session was conducted on March 1,2023 by Mrs. Bindhu VB, civil police officer, ottapalam police station. She talked about the issues women face in today's world and legal solutions for them. She shared her experiences as a women police officer. Her words intrigued us because it was not a regular speech but was the reflection of her police journey.
She spoke about the relevant social issues that are happening in our society. She shared several experiences like, the case of drug usage among school students, the cases related to girls at the age of 14 and issues faced by the women in public places, also making us aware about the legal consequences related to it.
The session started with prayer . The student coordinator, Anjitha K J , 1st year B.Ed student ,delivered the welcome speech. Our Women’s Cell teacher Coordinator Dr.Seema Menon K P rendered the presidential address. The session continued as our chief guest Bindhu VB, CPO, inaugurated the program, followed by the class conducted by her. At the end of the session students shared their bitter experiences and issues they faced and the CPO answered how police can help them to solve their problems. GOOD TOUCH , BAD TOUCH AND PERSONAL HYGIENE : Awareness Class for School Students
"Good Touch and bad touch" This slogan refers to the teachings that good touches are those that are not abusive , such as hugs from family, a pat on the back, or shaking hands, while bad touches are those that are abusive and involve touching a child's private body parts. It's necessary for the child to differentiate between good and bad touch. Personal hygiene is how you take care of your body. Maintaining hygiene practices reduces the spread of illness and risk of medical conditions caused by not taking care of yourself. It also increases self-confidence and positively impacts personal relationships. The Women Development Cell of NSS Training College Ottapalam , organized An awareness class on " Good touch bad touch and personal hygiene " to students of N.S.S K.P.T Vocational Higher Secondary School. The class was conducted on 7th February 2023 at the school's auditorium. The entire session was well planned and executed by the women cell members, taking turns to get the class more interactive. The school principal Radhika teacher said the welcome address and appreciated for conducting an awareness class for her children. The students are from different classes mainly standard 7 to standard 9, targeting the adolescents to which they are at the stage of transition from being a child to being an adult. Knowledge of children about these issues can help to protect themselves against sexual abuse. The session started with the introduction of the topic "good touch and bad touch" by Rasmi .S , M.Ed second year representative, demonstrating what a good or bad touch means. The session was continued by Anjitha KJ , B.Ed first year Student coordinator of Women development cell, of NSS Training college Ottapalam, on how to differentiate the good ones from the bad touch. The next part of the session started with the basics of personal hygiene and importance of personal hygiene during menstrual cycle by Anjitha KJ and Rasmi S. Explaining what's happening inside as well as out side of their body. The interactive time stayed active from the engagement of students, asking questions on sanitary aids ,disposal of the sanitary pads, and menstruation etc. The program ended with the feedbacks of students and teachers of N.S.S K.P.T vocational higher secondary school.
